Senator Advocates power shift to North in 2007

By Fayil Friday

As politicians put their acts together in readiness for the 2007 general elections Senator Emmanuel Okpede has added his voice to the clarion call for power shift to the Northern part of the country.

Okpede who represents Nasarawa South Senatorial District in the Senate bared his mind in an interview with Nigerian Newsday recently. He stated that even at the state level, power should shift from one senatorial zone to another.

He opined that since the south had ruled for eight years it was only natural for power to go to the north.

His words: "power shift is a constitutional matter, since there must be federal character in whatever we do. Besides, the concepts of live and lets live, be our brothers keepers, love your neighbour as yourself must come to play".

He urged Nigerians to thank God for democracy and its dividends so far and pray for the success of the awaited transition to the next civilian government come 2007.
