A member of National Assembly from Plateau State, Mr. Victor Mainasara Lar, narrowly escaped assassination by unknown gunmen last Monday night.
The incident occurred at his Kuru Trade Centre residence in Jos South Local Government Area of the state, when four men jumped through a high fence into the house of the lawmaker.
The four men according to the wife of Mr. Lar forcefully gained entrance into the house on meeting her with the children, demanded to know the where-about of her husband, Mr. Victor Lar, who is a Member, House of Representatives, representing Langtang North and South Federal Constituency.
The wife of the lawmaker told Nigerian Newsday that, she told them that he was not at home but they demanded to be giving phone handsets, money "and our Mercedes Benz car keys and money".
She said: "I told them that I don’t have any handset and all that they were requesting for but they asked me to take them my husband’s bedroom. I told my daughter, Nandir, to lead them to the room. While in the bedroom, the young men thoroughly ransacked the mattress and asked for my husband’s gun, but I told them that my husband does not have a gun".
After they have finished the search, according to the lawmaker’s wife, they ended up picking only one of his cap and belt and went away in a hurry. Mrs. Lar thanked God that none of the members of her family was hurt by the unknown men.
On his part, Mr. Victor Lar, said he did not know why the men were looking for him. "I have not done anything wrong to anybody that will warrant my assassination". However, he said that the attempt to assassinate him may not be unconnected with his decision to run for the office of the governor of Plateau state next year. Lar who is a member of All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) urged people to remain peaceful and allow democracy take its course.
When contacted for confirmation, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Domique Iornimbe said they have received reports on the incident from the Kuru DPO and were seriously investigating the issue.
