Jos International Breweries shut After violence by workers
The Jos International Breweries, producers of Rock and Class larger beer as well as Malt Royale drink, has been shut down indefinitely.
The company’s managing director, Mr. Albert Kattiems, who disclosed this in an interview in Jos, said that the closure followed a protest by the workers over the non-payment of their benefits.
According to him, the decision reached by the board was to ensure that the company’s property where not vandalized by the workers.
Kattiems decried that the company was currently operating under a loss and could not afford to loss more due to industrial strike.
Leader of the company’s branch of National Union of Food, Beverages and Tobacco Employees, Michael Dabiak, said the protest was to pressurize the payment of the benefits.
He said they also meant to force the management to look into the issues about payment of staff retirement benefits and contributory insurance.
Meanwhile, the state government and the labour union leadership in the state have intervened in the matter with a view to amicably resolving the issue.
