Chances of PDP in 2007 polls bright- Lawmaker
Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Nura Shehu Giwa, has described the chances of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) come 2007 elections as very bright.
Speaking in an interview with Nigerian Newsday in Kaduna, Hon. Nura claimed that "the aggrieved members of our great party (PDP) have already been reconciled. Also, the Jigawa State Governor, Ibrahim Saminu Turaki and all the members of the State House of Assembly have decamped to PDP".
Therefore, Hon. Nura, who is representing Giwa/Birnin-Gwari federal constituency, said, "by the will of God PDP will maintain its positions in the country", in 2007 and beyond with a view to consolidating the present gains of democracy in the country.
On the party's presidential ticket, the lawmaker appealed to PDP leadership and President Olusegun Obasanjo to ensure the seat is zoned to the North as earlier arranged, explaining that in 1999 it was agreed that the presidential seat will rotate between South and the North only.
He said in order to ensure justice, the Northern part must be allowed to produce the next president.
Hon. Nura, who is also the Marafan Zazzau, called on the members of PDP to continue to be united and to shun anything that will cause division among them.
He equally called on the people of Kaduna State irrespective of religion, tribe or political differences to always love one another and work as a team for the attainment of lasting peace in the state in particular and the country in general.
Hon. Nura, who is now eyeing Kaduna Central senatorial seat, commended Governor Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi's administration for its development programmes, saying that in the last seven years, Governor Makarfi has done a lot toward the development of the state.
