FG to develop 20 hectares of land for irrigation

By Abubakar Labaran, Kafanchan

The Federal Government has completed arrangements to develop twenty hectares of land for irrigation at Gurara Dam in Kaduna State.

The Kaduna State governor, Architect Mohammed Namadi Sambo, disclosed this recently at Kwoi, Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, at the annual Tuk Ham cultural festival for the year 2008.

Arch. Sambo said that contract has already been awarded for the development of six thousand hectares out of the twenty in order to boost agricultural production in the state.

The governor also announced that very soon, the vice president, Mr. Goodluck Jonathan, would launch Operation Yaki together with the state programme of training for co-option of commercial motorcycles operators to taxi drivers.

The governor said that the programme would start with 500 taxis, adding that one hundred of the taxis will be distributed during the launching.

Arch. Sambo then urged the people of the state to support all the programmes that were meant to improve their standards of living.

In his keynote address, the chairman of Jaba Local Government Council, Barrister Suleiman Yahaya, appealed to the Kaduna State Government to assist in completing the electrification projects that have been abandoned across the local government area.

Barrister Suleiman called on the entire Jaba community to continue to support democracy as well as maintain the existing peace in the area.

He also appealed to the state government to assist in striking a good and regular price for ginger, which is the major cash crop in the area.

In his speech, the Kpop Ham, Malam Danladi Gyet Maude, appealed to Namadi Sambo’s administration to, as a matter of urgency, complete the road projects of Gidan-Man to Kwoi and Kwoi to Anking.

The Kpop Ham then thanked all the people who made this year’s Ham festival a success.
