Police arrest 4 morgue attendants

The police in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, have arrested four mortuary attendants at the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau, for allegedly removing the eye of a dead patient.

The suspects were alleged to have plucked the right eye of a woman who died of complications arising from child-birth.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the deceased was brought to the hospital from Bungudu Local Government Area.

It was gathered that when her relations came to collect her body for burial, they noticed that her right eye had disappeared, which prompted them to raise an alarm.

The Medical Director of the centre, Dr. Tajudeen Ayediran, who was said to be highly disturbed over the incident, quickly invited the police for thorough investigation.

A source told NAN that he had already been summoned to Abuja in connection with the issue and the recent case of a child theft at the centre.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Lawal Abdullahi, confirmed the incident and the arrest of the suspects.

He said the suspects would soon be charged to court.
