INEC fixes April 5 for by-election in Kebbi

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Commissioner in Kebbi State, Alhaji Abdullahi Gada, has said that the commission has fixed April 5 for the state Assembly by-election.

He made the announcement recently in Birnin Kebbi while addressing representatives of all the political parties.

Gada said the by-election was to fill the vacant seat created in Bagudo West by the death of a former lawmaker representing the area in the Assembly, Alhaji Maniru Ka'oje.

He urged the parties to submit the names of their candidates for the by-election.

The commissioner urged all stakeholders to cooperate with INEC to ensure a free and fair by-election.

The State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Muktari Ibrahim, said necessary measures had been taken to ensure a peaceful conduct of the exercise.

Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Longinus Nwaka, Ibrahim urged the party leaders to educate their members and supporters on the need to ensure violent-free political activities.
