NSHA Speaker commends associations for ….

The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Musa, has commended the effort of the National Association of Women, Youth and Community in Africa (NAWYCA) and the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), on their role in trying to alleviate the plight of the women in the society.

Alhaji Musa made the commendation when the leaders of the two organizations paid him a visit in his office to present a private member bill on gender opportunity and equality.

The Speaker who was represented by the majority leader of the House, Alhaji Abdul Hameed Yakubu Kwara said the duty of the Assembly was to make good legislations to improve the living standard of people and as such they Assembly would give the private bill all the necessary attention it deserves.

He said the state house of assembly was the first to pass the child right law, which would compel parents to bear full responsibility for their own children, including the right of the child to go to school.

He added that women were very enterprising and industrious, adding, it is for this reason that the present administration is planning to empower them through the micro-credit finance scheme.

In her brief speech at the occasion, the state acting president of National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) Mrs Saraya Agidi commended the effort of the state house of assembly for passing the child rights bill into law.

She noted that free ante-natal and maternity care rendered at all general hospitals within the state and at the Dalhatu Specialist Hospital, Lafia introduced by the government were all geared towards improving the lives of women in the state.
