By Simon Inalegwu
Nasarawa Solid Babes Football Club of Lafia, in the on-going 2004 national female League Division One ‘B’ competition last week, played a 2-2 draw with Waheed Queens Football Club of Kaduna at Ranch Bees Stadium, Kaduna.
Waheed Queens FC of Kaduna opened scores in the 10th minute of the play through an attacker. Solid Babes, however, fought back with serious pressure on Waheed Queens, forcing the queens to a half-field play. The continued pressure on the Queens FC of Kaduna paid off in the 15th minute when Solid Babes attacker, Miss Judith Omokhojie beat the Queen’s defence, before firing a powerful shot into the net.
Solid Babes kept terrorising the Queens’ defence with scintillating and exciting display of soccer artistry which made them to be the favourites at the stadium. The Babes second goal came through Kafaya Ajani when a cross from the left wing came and was immediately utilised by the striker.
The first half ended with Babes leading 2-1.
On resumption of the second half, Babes FC of Nasarawa took control the entire game. This, however did not go down well with supporters of Waheed Queens who started chanting and threatening the centre referee, thereby forcing the match to a stand-still.
When play resumed, Babes resumed with serious forays at the goalkeeper, but in the 65th minute of the game, the Queens equalised.
With the 2-2 away draw, Solid Babes FC has 19 points, placing third in the League table.
In a press statement, the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Solid Babes FC, Salihu Adamu, said the club management and technical crew were happy with the girls’ performance as the 2-2 draw automatically qualifies the Solid Babes to play among the super six.
The chief coach of the Solid Babes FC, Coach Sabo Saleh, in a chat attributed the successes so far recorded to teamwork and high level of preparedness.
He thanked Almighty Allah for seeing the team through all huddles and promised to train hard to ensure that the team does not only participate in the super six, but to also ensure qualification to 2005 national female Premier League competition, next season.
