The former minister of Culture and Tourism, Ambassador Frank Nchita Ogbuewu has urged the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) consultants handling the development of the tourism master plan to take into consideration the slave routes projects and eco-tourism potentials which he said were areas of competitive and comparative advantage to Nigeria.
The former minister made this appeal last week when the UNWTO Technical Consultants and the Tourism Development Master Plan Committee led by its chairman, Dr. Franklin Adejuwon presented an appraisal report to him.
Ambassador Ogbuewu said that efforts made by the committee and the UNWTO consultants have rekindled the federal government's commitment to create an enduring foundation for sustainable tourism development in Nigeria.
The leader of the team, Mr Peter MC-Noltin have earlier said that Nigeria's tourism master plan would be strictly packaged to reflect the peculiar needs of tourism.
Mr MC-Noltin disclosed that the consultants had made elaborate contacts with the state governments and have visited tourism sites in the federation with a view to ensuring a broad-based tourism master plan for Nigeria.
