Public Relations Practitioners Hold Annual Conference in Lafia
Thursday, November 08, 2007
The Nigeria Institute of Public Relations is holding its National Annual Conference/General Meeting in Lafia, capital city of Nasarawa State. Declaring the meeting open, Governor Akwe Doma challenged the PR practitioners to have a high sense of intellectual judgement, creativity, confidence and above all courage. He urged them to provide information that will guide government in taking popular decisions.
Governor Akwe praised the Institute for the choice of this year's theme - Public relations, national reforms and good governance - which is a demonstration of the preparedness of Public Relations practitioners to support the efforts of the present Administration to re-brand Nigeria and make it the centre piece of economic development in Africa and indeed the world.
He informed the gathering that this was the first national conference that the state was hosting since assumption of office, noting that the state was impressed by the decision of the Institute to hold its meeting in Lafia. He therefore urged them to ensure that discussions at this conference will mark a turning point in the practice of public relations in Nigeria.
Earlier, the National President of the Institute, Prof. Ike Nwosu stated that the NIPR was established in 1963 as the accredited professional body of PR practitioners in Nigeria. He recommended dialogue as one of the greatest ways in which harmony can be attained in Nigeria.
During the meeting, Governor Akwe Doma was inducted as the Patron of the Institute.
