Nasarawa Proposes to Spend N29b in 2006
Wednesday, December 21, 2005
The Nasarawa State government has presented a budget proposal of N29,052,313,129.00, made up of a capital expenditure of N16,417,552,215.00 and a recurrent vote of N12,634,760,914.00. The proposals were contained in the 2006 appropriation bill presented to the state house of assembly by Governor Adamu on Monday, December 19, 2005.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony at the assembly complex in Lafia, Governor Adamu stated that education would take the lion share of the 2006 budget. It is followed by agriculture, health, rural development, water resources, public works and transport. He said the budget will concentrate mainly on the completion of on-going projects as the administration would not like to leave behind any uncompleted projects at the end of its tenure in 2007.
Governor Adamu used the occasion to inform the house that this would be the last full-year budget that his administration would be implementing and thus it was important to have a sense of history in its implementation. According to him, “what we do and what we fail to do will all form the basis on which history will judge us. Let us not work to please history but let us not ignore history in our workâ€.
On the various projects to be implemented, Governor Adamu stated that an aquaculture park will be established, large scale farms will be established in conjunction with some Southern African farmers, more roads will be built and completed and public sector transportation would be enhanced.
The house of assembly is expected to commence debate on the bill immediately.
