Nasarawa State Participates in Abuja Carnival

The Abuja Carnival took off on a celebration note today with the Nasarawa State contingent stealing the show attended by many of Nigeria’s political elite including President Olusegun Obasanjo. The Nasarawa State contingent which was made up of a mixture of cultural troupes from all local governments in the state received a standing ovation from the crowd when it marched past the VIP podium.
 
President Obasanjo at the occasion paid tribute to the organisers of the event stating that it was intended to annually showcase the rich Nigerian culture. He stated that tourism had become a major foreign exchange earner around the world and Nigeria could not be isolated. He said promoting tourism was a way of diversifying the Nigerian economy and hoped that Nigerians would find time to relax over the next few days that the carnival will go through the major streets of Abuja.
 
Cultural troupes from all the 36 states of Nigeria participated in the opening ceremony while the closing ceremony will take place on Sunday.
 
Governor Adamu as well as many state governors were in attendance.
