Nasarawa Budgets N25.4 billion for Fiscal Year 2005
Monday, November 15, 2004
The Nasarawa state government has presented an appropriation bill of N25,417,487,162.00 as its estimated expenditure for the year 2005. Governor Adamu made this disclosure while addressing members of the state house of assembly in Lafia.
According to Governor Adamu, education, health, agriculture and rural development will continue to enjoy intensified government attention during the fiscal year. He announced a total sectoral allocation to education of N4,115,898,842 (Four Billion, One Hundred and Fifteen Million, Eight Hundred and Ninety-eight Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty-two Naira). Health will receive N1,601,819,353; agriculture N1,383,518,024 while public works will receive N3,645,544,431.
Reviewing the performance of the 2004 budget, governor Adamu said most of it was fulfilled, even though some expectations were not met owing to external factors such as the increase in petroleum prices. These increases made the cost of running government higher as well as limited the spending capacity of low income earners.
During the 2005 fiscal year, Governor Adamu said the government will build additional hospitals in Lafia, Kadarko, Mada station, Agyaragu and Agwada. Four earth dams will also be constructed in various parts of the state, just as the maintenance of public buildings and infrastructure will receive government attention.
Under Nigeria’s democratic structure, the house of assembly will now have to deliberate on the budget and made necessary inputs before passing it into law for the ascent of the governor.
