School Feeding Programme: President Obasanjo to Visit Nasarawa State

The Nasarawa State Pilot School Feeding programme is set to be launched by President Obasanjo who will be visiting Nasarawa State on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 for the occasion.

Addressing pressmen in Lafia, the commissioner for Information, Solomon Adokwe, said the occasion will take place at Laminga town, about 20 kilometers along the Keffi - Nasarawa road. The Nasarawa State programme is intended to specifically prevent and correct known nutrient deficiencies amongst pre-school and school going children, namely Iron deficiency and Iron deficiency Anemia, Zinc deficiency, Iodine deficiency and Vitamin A deficiency. The Ultra High Temperature treated (UHT), aseptically packed, 250ml serving contains 30 Macro-Micro & Trace Element Nutrients that fulfill the daily nutrient deficit intake of this vulnerable group. A deficit caused by the skewed staple diet of mainly maize, millet, sorghum, cassava and Soya, starch foods with a high carbohydrate value but lacking essential nutrients to maintain good and normal health.

The occasion which will be attended by members of the federal executive committee, diplomatic corps and heads of multi-lateral organizations in Nigeria.
