Governor Adamu Commends Women Role in National Development

Women societies in Nigeria have been commended for sharing in Nigeria’s hopes, sensibilities and ambitions. Governor Adamu made this known while addressing the opening ceremony of the 2nd quadrennial delegate’s conference of the National Council of Women societies in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
Governor Adamu used the occasion to call on Nigerian woman to continue to plow their enormous potentials into the gigantic Nigerian project. He challenged them to use their umbrella organization to move Nigeria forward in their determined efforts to make a difference in the nation. He recalled the roles of many Nigerian women who have positively contributed to the growth of democracy by the various positions they hold. Affirming his belief in the power of women to make a difference in the polity, Governor Adamu informed the gathering that he had appointed four women commissioners into his cabinet and seven permanent secretaries into the state civil service. This was in addition to numerous other board appointments for women.
In her speech at the occasion, National President of the National Council for Women Societies, Bolere Elizabeth Ketebu-Nwokeafor commended Governor Adamu’s giant steps in women empowerment. She said many other states were lagging behind in their promotion of women issues saying that women advocacy was most active in Nasarawa State. She therefore urged the Governor to continue his good works in women empowerment.
As part of the ceremony, an award of Champion of Human Development was presented to Governor Adamu.
The convention is being attended by various women organizations across the country.
