Nasarawa Holds Rally in Support of Constitutional Amendments

The people of Nasarawa state have come out strong in support of the on-going constitutional amendments in the National Assembly. The voice of support rang through many speeches given at a state rally held over the weekend at the Lafia Township Stadium.
Speaking at the rally, governor Adamu stated that the amendments where being made to bring the 1999 constitution in tune with democratic practice. He stated that the present constitution contained so many clauses that were undemocratic and therefore required fine-tuning. The national assembly as the constitutionally mandated body to carry out these amendments was therefore right to initiate and carry them through.
Governor Adamu informed the large crowd that there were over one hundred clauses which were being considered for amendments and wondered why people were making noise on only one clause as if that was all there is to the amendments. He therefore stated categorically that the people of Nasarawa state was in support of the amendments and urged the members of the national assembly from the state to vote for it in parliament.
Amognst those who spoke at the rally were Senators Danso Sodangi, Emmanuel Okpede and John Danboyi. All five members of the House of Representatives form Nasarawa state also attended the rally and spoke in favour of the amendments
Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Mohammed Ogosi Onawo also led all members of the state parliament to express support for the amendment and said with the support form the crowd, they were sure that the people of Nasarawa state supported the exercise.
Also in attendance were the State Deputy Governor, Labaran Maku; Minister for Labour and Productivity, Dr. Hassan Lawal and other elders of the state.
