Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma has approved the exercise of his powers under the Constitution to remit the sentences of some prison inmates in the State.
 
A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Timothy Anjide, said the exercise of these powers was in the spirit of the 50th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence and the 14th anniversary of the creation of Nasarawa State.

Pursuant to the powers conferred on the Executive Governor by Section 212 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, and in the spirit of the 50th anniversary of Nigeria’s independence and the 14th anniversary of the creation of Nasarawa State, His Excellency Alhaji (Dr.) Aliyu Akwe Doma, OON, (Madauchin Doma), has exercised Prerogative of Mercy in favour of some concerned persons in the State, effective 2nd October, 2010.

Those affected are:

A.  Remission of Prison Sentences:
1.    Angela Adoga
2.    Danladi Sale
3.    Sadiq Ibrahim
4.    Isa Bako
5.    Kasimu Hamza

B.  State Pardon:
1.    Shehu Usman
2.    Sarki Obashi

His Excellency’s decision in granting the prerogative of mercy is based on proven remorse, good conduct and condition of health of those concerned.

It is the hope and expectation of His Excellency that the persons affected by this magnanimous gesture will use the opportunity to remain good and law abiding citizens and contribute their quota to the development and moral rejuvenation of the State and Country.
