The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) Nasarawa State chapter has inaugurated its new officials and fund raising committee for launching of Ten Million naira (N10m) appeal fund for the purchase of an Evangelical Bus and opening of an Information Technology Centre (ICT) in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.

Speaking at the occasion, the guest speaker, reverend Silas Yako from Jos, the Plateau State capital who spoke on the theme, “How do you become worthy?” emphasized that leadership is about men of good character adding that as leaders, one is ordained by the holy spirit and must have a life style that is worth remembering.”

Reverend Yako, while commenting on the necessity and importance of leadership, stressed that the newly inaugurated officials must serve the people with a clear purpose, carry everybody along and as well encourage them to imbibe the virtue of the truth and oneness.

At the inauguration of the officials, Patriot Simon A. S. Dolly who is the Special Assistant to the Deputy Speaker of Nasarawa State House of Assembly emerged as the president.

Others elected and sworn-in were Patriot Emmanuel I. Dickson as the vice president; Bro. Akumbugu Faith, general secretary; Simon T. Nasso as assistant general secretary; Pastor Tayo Samuel (JP), treasurer; Mrs. Alice Peter, financial secretary; John Patrick as P.R.O; Barnabas Waziri, auditor; Anthony Effiong as prayer secretary.

The state chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Mathew Ishaya Audu said history has been recorded in the life of CAN in Nasarawa State and stressed that the youth being the vanguard of the society must put on their garments.

He called on the newly inaugurated officials to take the mantle of leadership with all seriousness to pilot the affairs of Christian youth, through applying their energy to curb the high rate of social vices and unemployment among the youth reduced to the bearest minimum.

The chairman said, “youth must learn to sacrifice their comfort at times for a good course just as late Azikwe and Awolowo fought for our independence.”

He said as the 2011 election draws nearer, the youth must fully participate in the exercise and should not allow themselves to be used as thugs, noting that only through this posture that youth relevance in democratic roles and norms would be enhanced.

In his remark, the new YOWICAN president, Mr. Patriot Simon Dolly assured of good leadership maintaining that his administration will ensure transparency, accountability and prudent use of resources in all ramifications.

Patriot Simon said since the creation of Nasarawa State was as a result of collective effort, they must ensure that marginalization is averted adding that “the YOWICAN are advocates for prosperous, united and peaceful Nasarawa State” even as we match triumphantly into the 2011 polls.

The occasion was attended by prominent sons and daughters of Nasarawa State including the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma, his deputy, Chief John Michael Abdul, Distinguish Senators Danboyi and Suleiman Adokwe, Patricia Akwashiki, Hon. Elisha Agwadu, among others.
