The chairman of Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Abdullahi Shuaibu Akoshi has donated 10,000 exercise books and 3,000 text books as well as 100 text books on the history of Obi Local Government to pupils in the area.

Alhaji Akoshi also donated 200 crash helmets to the Nigerian Union of Teachers’ (NUT), Obi branch.

Presenting the materials to the Education Secretary, Malam Aminu Oshera, Alhaji Akoshi promised to supply more books and other teaching aids to the pupils, adding that education, which is the bedrock of every development must be supported in all ramifications, adding that schools in the area would be renovated and new ones to be built so as to provide good atmosphere for learning in the area.

While receiving the materials, the Education Secretary, Malam Aminu Oshera thanked the chairman for the gesture and called on him to do more for the schools.

Malam Oshera said the schools are short of teachers and instruction materials adding that the local government area has a total of 54 schools, 11 extensions and 12,226 pupils.

On his part, the supervisory councilor for education and social welfare, Mohammed Dahiru thanked the chairman for the supply of the materials and promised that they would be used judiciously.
