Governor Akwe Doma of Nasarawa State has promised to keep the momentum in the implementation of the Badakoshi. This followed the preliminary scorecard of the scheme which the Governor said were most encouraging.

Governor Doma was speaking at the launching of the 2nd edition of the Badakoshi Agricultural Scheme in Andaha. He said that buoyed by the successes of the first edition of the scheme, the 2nd edition will feature the following:

  • further disbursement of agricultural loans to farmers totaling N500 million;
  • further allocation of 100 tractors under the Tractor Loan component of the Scheme;
  • allocation of Agricultural Processing Machineries to deserving agro-processors;
  • disbursement of Fadama III agricultural grants and allocation of vehicles and motorcycles to beneficiaries;
  • further sales of assorted fertilisers and agro-chemicals for the 2010 cropping season;
  • exhibition and further sales of improved seeds and seedlings, as well as, livestock and fishery equipment;
  • exhibition of farm produce by beneficiaries of Badakoshi Agricultural Scheme;  and,
  • Flag-off of livestock vaccination campaign for 2010 season.
 
The Governor made it know that with Badakoshi achieving its objectives, a Green revolution had commenced in Nasarawa State.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Nigerian Minister of Agriculture who commended the Scheme’s implementation, calling on other states of the federation to emulate Nasarawa State in promoting agriculture.

Also at the ceremony was the Minister of State, Information and Communications as well as several stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
