Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Ephraim U.N Amakulor, has re-iterated his commitment to step up security surveillance of the state.
Mr. Amakulor said this while briefing newsmen on the efforts of the policemen in combating crimes in the state.
The police commissioner revealed that the command has made a relative success in maintaining law and order in the state.
According to him, notorious gang leader, Stephen Shogban Onyet and five others were arrested by the police in connection with the recent stealing of firearms and ammunitions at Giza police post.
Mr. Amakulor stated that the suspected armed robbers have been arraigned in court for conspiracy, armed robbery and sundry offences, adding that the arms carted away are yet to be recovered.
He added that other 120 suspects arrested with various offensive weapons have been arraigned and remanded in prison custody.
He also said eleven suspects were arrested in Keffi with key cutters, house breaking implements and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
The police commissioner also disclosed that in Lafia, twenty two persons were arrested; twelve out of the number were arraigned and remanded in prison custody.
Mr. Amakulor said two persons were arrested for car snatching in Nasarawa, adding that investigation is still on.
He advised car owners to have track card detectors in order to make recovery of snatched cars easy for the policemen.
On the recent armed robbery cases along Obi-Awe, Obi-Keana roads, he said that the police would definitely clamp down on those involved.
He said the police would do more if the state government fulfills its pledge of providing mobility for the police to crack down on the armed robbers.
Mr. Amakulor said the command has met with the Army and other stakeholders on how to overcome the problem of armed robbers in the Southern Zone of the state.
He appealed to the public to report crimes to the police through phone calls.
