Nasarawa State Government builds theatre hall in University of Jos

Nasarawa State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma has embarked on the construction of a befitting indoor theatre hall for the department of theatre arts of the University of Jos, in Plateau State.
The construction of the hall embarked upon by Governor Akwe Doma was a fulfillment of a promise jointly made by his friends, family, associates as well as government of Nasarawa State who pledged to build an indoor theatre hall for the department in appreciation of the recognition and honour earlier done to the governor by the university.
It would be recalled that, the Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma, was conferred with award of honourary Doctorate Degree of Letters (D. Litt Honoris causa) by the University of Jos in April 2010 during which the pledge was made.
The theatre hall which was designed to accommodate one thousand (1000) seat capacity when completed would be named “Dr. Aliyu Akwe Doma indoor theatre.”
To this end, the state government has constituted and appointed members of the Board of Trustees that would ensure successful execution of the project.
At the brief ceremony organized for the award of the contract, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Timothy A. Anjide who represented Governor Doma led members of the Board to the university to take over the land allocated for the sitting of the hall which was handed over to the contractor to commence work on the project.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the Board, Engineer Ali Rabiu (Cigarin Lafia) urged the contractor to finish the work according to the schedule and specifications.
In his response, the Vice-chancellor of the University, Professor Sonni Gwanle Tyodue thanked the friends and family, of the governor as well as the Nasarawa State Government for the honor done to the university by the construction of a befitting theatre hall in the institution.
Also in his response, the contractor handling the project, promised the Board members that he would construct a befitting ‘Dr. Aliyu Akwe Doma indoor theatre art hall’ within the 32 weeks time frame given to them.
The project, when completed would go a long way in consolidating the pursuit of academic excellence in the institution.
