Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma of Nasarawa State has urged the people of Obi and Jenkwe communities to uphold the virtues of peace, harmony and understanding for the accelerated growth and development of the areas.

Governor Doma stated this at a joint meeting of local government and development areas of Obi and Jenkwe recently.

While commending the efforts of the chairmen of the councils and the traditional rulers of the area for their optimum utilization of resources Governor Doma said he was impressed with the success so far achieved in the area.

He explained that the construction by his administration of Agwatashi – Agaza roads, rehabilitation and renovation of veterinary clinic and primary health care centres in various communities would improve the quality of lives of the people in the area.

Other projects embarked upon by Governor Doma in the area included the rehabilitation and upgrading of school infrastructures, drilling of boreholes in various communities, provision of tractors, loans and fertilizer to farmers under the Badakoshi Agricultural Scheme.

While commissioning the maternal and child welfare clinic and the official residence of the chairman in Obi, Governor Doma urged them to take advantage of the subsidized fertilizer price of N1,800 per bag to boost agricultural production this year.

Governor Doma disclosed that under the phase two of the Badakoshi agricultural scheme, farmers would get 100 tractors, loans and fertilizer in order to boost agriculture in the state.

In their separate addresses, the two chairmen described Governor Doma as a focused leader with the interest of the state at heart.

The chairman of Obi Local Government Council, Honourable Abdullahi Akoshi, noted that the laudable programmes of the government have given the council a sense of direction in the provision of socio-economic activities in the area.

He said that the construction of Awe – Obi and Tunga roads would help the movement of goods and services, and help in curtailing the nefarious activities of armed robbers in the area, pointing out that his administration has also constructed Obi Township roads, maternal and child welfare clinic, official residence of the council chairman, renovation of police quarters, boreholes and many more projects.

On his part, the administrator of Jenkwe Development Area, Honourable Azeh Joshua Yekpowudu, said the monumental achievements of Governor Doma in Jenkwe were a sign of love and solidarity he has for the people of the area.

He said that council was able to construct 8 new primary health care centres, classrooms, procured drugs and constructed befitting local government guest house at Agyaragu.

The Osuko of Obi commended Governor Doma for his laudable programmes in Obi, adding that his style of leadership, if maintained, would transform Nasarawa State to greater heights.

Speaking in the same vein, the Zhe-Migili, Dr. Ayuba Agwadu, chairman Jenkwe traditional council, thanked Governor Doma for bringing programmes that touched the lives of all in the area, pledging their support to Governor Doma come 2011 election.
