An appeal has been made to the Nasarawa state governor, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma to fast track the connection of the electricity project from Kanje to Azara.
The Administrator of Azara, Alhaji Tanko Sarki made the call in Azara.
According to him, the project if completed would go a long way in boosting business and economic activities in the area.
Alhaji Sarki lamented that the contractor handling the electricity project, which is a federal government project, had long abandoned the contract .
He said N70m would be required to complete the rural electrification form Kanje to Azara.
Speaking on his score card Alhaji Sarki said he was able to build the administrator’s house, secretary’s house, VIP and corpers lodge and Aliyu Akwe Doma Youth Centre that can house 1,500 people.
Alhaji Sarki said that he was able to drill eleven boreholes across the development area to provide potable drinking water to Azara people.
He said further that two eighteen seater buses were purchased to ease transportation while two wagon cars were acquired for the conveyance of party members.
On health, he said N5m facilities were purchased to improve health delivery while a hospital was built at Kumru and other primary health centres renovated.
Speaking on mining activities in Azara, Alhaji Sarki called on the federal government to ban the importation of barites from Morocco.
He said that the ban on the importation will encourage the local production of the commodity in Nigeria, adding that Azara mining corporation has the full capacity to sustain oil companies in the country.
According to him, Azara barites has the best quality in Africa but was not fully utilized by the government.
He explained further that the deposits stretch as far as Keana Local Government Area.
On agriculture, Alhaji Sarki commended Governor Doma for the Badakoshi programme, adding that through the programme farmers now have access to loans, fertilizers and other farm implement like tractors to increase their farming yields.
