Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government (SSG), Mr. Timothy A. Anjide, has stressed the need to encourage students to behave well while in pursuit of academic excellence.

The SSG who was represented by his wife, Mrs Lily Anjide stated this at the occasion of the 4th graduation, speech and prize giving day of Our Ladi of Apostle (OLA) Girls College, Akwanga, in Nasarawa State.

He said it was only when students were being encouraged that they would commit themselves to their studies.

Mr. Anjide who expressed satisfaction with the performance of the school, said the college was formerly the only female institution that attracted students from both within the state and other parts of the country.

He then commended the efforts of both parents and teachers towards the upbringing of  the students.

Mr. Anjide also wished the graduating students success in life and reminded them to always remember all the good things they learnt to enable them become worthy ambassadors of the college wherever they found themselves.

In his speech, the Bishop of Lafia Catholic Diocese, Bishop Ishaya Matthew Audu advised parents to avoid engaging themselves in dubious acts in order  to influence the success of their children.

He also said parents must be ready to support their children’s education so as to encourage their learning ability, saying, there must be difference between certificate and true education.

Also in her remarks, the principal of the college, Sister Benedict Amimi charged the graduating students to exhibit good conducts in their future undertakings.

She also called on the students  not to allow any act of social vices to interfere with their academic pursuit and  then urged them to be committed and dedicated to their studies so as to attain their future dreams.

The occasion featured the presentation of awards to dignitaries, including the secretary to the state government, for their various contributions to the development of the college, just as prizes were also given to deserving students who distinguished themselves in various academic fields.
