In an effort to reduce the rate of unemployment,  prostitution, street begging and other vices, a Non- Governmental Organisation (NGO), Centre for Youth, Women and Community Action, NAWYCA based at Lafia, Nasarawa State capital, has trained 57 women on skills acquisition.

The women who were trained in their areas of interest, went home with various items, some of which include six oven machines for bakery, 17 sewing machines, 32 head driers, 32 head basins and two generating sets.

The women who were said to be under priviledged, were drawn form Niger, Benue and Nasarawa states.

The gesture to the women was a joint effort with Win Rock/Aids Impact Education, UNICEF and NAWYCA.

Speaking during the programme, a representative from Win Rock/Aids Impact Education, Mr. Omimi Eyoung, thanked NAWYCA for agreeing to be one of its implementing partners, and urged NAWYCA not to relent in giving under priviledged people a sense of belonging in the society.

Mr. Eyoung who noted that nothing good comes easy, advised the women to be determined, describing the opportunity given them as a privilege from God.

Addressing the women earlier, the Executive Director of NAWYCA, Mr. Nawani Aboki said that, providing succor to the women group was necessary following the neglect, discrimination and difficulties they faced, hence the need to provide a sense of hope and togetherness for them to carry on with their normal lives irrespective of the challenges that will come their way.

Mr. Aboki who however commended the commitment of the women to learn new things for better living, assured of NAWYCA support to people who are ready to take a new life, adding that, life can be better for any one that needs change.

The NAWYCA boss said, that training and items given to the women were to help them start a new life and urged them not to neglect the little beginning.

Some of the women who spoke at the occasion thanked both the organizations for coming to their aid.
