Nasarawa State Government has said that it would partner with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to ensure the safety of road users in the state.

Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma stated this last week while commissioning Zebra Fire Rescue Emergency Ambulance Service Centre in Keffi, the headquarters of Keffi Local Government Council of the state.

The governor, who was represented by the deputy governor, Chief John Michael Abdul, pointed out that his administration has embarked on the construction and rehabilitation of rural and urban roads across the state to curtail accidents.

According to him, the creation of traffic signs and logistics support by the corps were measures aimed at preventing incessant road accidents on the highways, saying that the administration would ensure its sustenance.

Governor Doma thanked the FRSC for choosing Nasarawa State for the establishment of the rescue centre after that of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and described it as a welcome development, saying that the zebra rescue centre was a laudable scheme that would bring succour to victims of roads accidents, thereby reducing its occurrence to the barest minimum.

The governor, who expressed dismay over loss of lives and property on the highway because of impatience, challenged all roads users to know that life has no duplicate and stressed the need for all roads users to obey traffic rules and regulations.

Earlier in his welcome address, the chief executive officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Osita Chidoka, explained that the centre in Keffi was established to rescue accident victims along Akwanga – Keffi – Kaduna – Abuja and Abaji routes.

Mr. Chidoka further assured that the commission would do everything possible to ensure safety on highways.

He added that the global statistics on road traffic crashes shows that youths were mostly affected and called on roads users to call the emergency phone number 07022553772 when the need arises.

He then commended the efforts of the Nasarawa State Government, the authority of Keffi Local Government Area and other wealthy individuals for supporting the programme.

The Federal Road Safety Commission band and other praise-singers were not left out as they added colour to the occasion.
