Farmers in Nasarawa State have been called upon to take advantage of the on-going disbursement and sale of fertilizer to improve agricultural production.

Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma made the call while addressing the joint meeting of Development Area Committee and Traditional Council of Akun Development Area.

In keeping with the administration’s efforts to maximize agricultural production as the main stay of the state’s economy, Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma informed the gathering that his administration has directed the immediate distribution and sale of fertilizer to farmers for the 2010 cropping season.

According to him each bag of fertilizer is to be sold at a subsidized rate of N1,800.00.

The State Governor however stressed that strict guidelines have been issued to the fertilizer distribution committees for the sale of the product expressing hope that farmers in the area will take full advantage of the opportunity to enhance productivity.

He further stressed his administration’s readiness to partner with authorities of Akun Development Area to enhance the socio-economic condition of the people through the provision of basic necessities of life.

Governor Doma highlighted some projects embarked by his government for the benefit of the area to include establishment of Akwanga – Akpata – Awongeshen rural electrification project, provision of boreholes, construction of comprehensive primary healthcare clinics among others while assuring them of his resolved to work for their interest at all times.

Earlier in an address of welcome the Administrator, Akun Development Area, Abaku Istifanus Dennis, said his administration has taken a queue from the Governor’s thirteen point agenda.

Abaku Istifanus explained however that the Development Area Council Committee has recorded tremendous achievements in the areas of education, improved healthcare service delivery, rural electrification in addition to water supply.

He then appealed to Governor Doma to consider the construction of Ola – Washo – Mada Station and the Kagbu Eroh – Gaji roads, among others.

In a remark the Aren Akun Alhaji Usman Umbugadu showered encomiums on Governor Doma for touching the lives of his people positively and made a case for the approval of the appointments of District Heads as well as the establishment of three boarding schools in Alushi, Wakama and Woye Shen.

The State Governor and his entourage were earlier received at the Akwanga – Akun border by a large turn-out of people including former minister of State FCT Solomon Ewuga, Minister of State Information Labaran Maku and Senator Patricia Akwashiki.

Other highlights of the visit were the commissioning of Kagbu Erroh electrification project and stakeholders interactive session in Akpata.
