The National Association of Special Education Teachers Nasarawa State chapter has advocated for the establishment of a school for the physically challenged in the State.

Special educator, Ministry of Education Nasarawa State, Alhaji Jibrin Danjuma Ogaji made the case today at the Association's seventh meeting in Lafia.

The National Policy on Education, the special educator said, gives priority attention to educational integration between the normal and physically challenged in order to discourage discrimination against the physically challenged in the society. Alhaji Jibrin Danjuma Ogaji who lamented the negative attitude of the society towards the physically challenged said there are a lot of potentials in them which could be tapped.

Alhaji Danjuma Ogaji noted that the purpose of the meeting is to among other things discuss, as well as ensure that the physically challenged children in Nasarawa State are given education without going to other states which he said is usually very expensive.

Also speaking, Secretary of the Association, Mr. Madaki Ibrahim, revealed that the Association has taken steps by collaborating with the State Government to ensure that schools are established in the state to ease the difficulty being experienced by parents and students to acquire education in other states of the federation.

Mr. Madaki Ibrahim said the schools when established will save cost as well as provide an enabling environment for children to study within the state rather than going outside the State.

He also used the medium to appeal to the State Government to establish Special Schools within the State as a way of encouraging them.

The meeting attracted teachers of Special Education within the State.
