The Nasarawa State Governor Alhaji Dr. Aliyu Akwe Doma, OON, Madauchin Doma, has approved the distribution of fertilizers to all local Government and Development Areas in Nasarawa State for the 2010 farming season.

Consequent upon this Governor Doma has charged Chairmen of Local Government/Development Areas Fertilizer Distribution Committees to make necessary arrangements to commence immediate distribution of the commodity to farmers throughout the state.

For this year’s season, fertilizers shall again be sold at a subsidised rate of N1,800 per bag in keeping with government policy of providing agricultural inputs to farmers at affordable price.

The Governor however, warned on the need to ensure strict compliance with the State government fertilizer distribution guidelines in order to avoid price increase, illegal sales or diversion of the product. The Governor disclosed that appropriate officials including security agencies have been directed to closely monitor the distribution exercise to ensure compliance of sales with approved guidelines toward ensuring that fertilizer gets to genuine farmers.

The Governor further warned that government will bring the full weight of the law to bear on any person or group found to be engaged in acts capable of sabotaging the smooth and fair distribution of fertilizers in the state.

His Excellency urges farmers in the state to make judicious use of the commodity towards the attainment of bumper harvest in line with the state policy for increased agricultural production in the state.

All enquiries about sale of fertilizers should be directed to the Honourable Commissioner, Agriculture and Natural Resources who shall be the Chief monitor of the fertilizer distribution exercise.
