Today, the 25th day of December, 2009 Christians in Nasarawa State join their brothers and sisters worldwide to celebrate the feast of Christmas.
I therefore wish to congratulate and felicitate with the Leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN); the Clergy and all Christian faithful in the State on this happy occasion.
As you are aware, Christmas commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ which heralded peace, reconciliation and love for mankind. It also marks the divine call to holiness, righteousness and personal sacrifice. Christmas is therefore a season for reflection and self-renewal towards conforming with the purposes of creation of man by God, the Almighty.
In the spirit of the season therefore, I enjoin all the Christian faithful to continue to imbibe the virtues of love, forgiveness, affection and goodwill to all. I urge for understanding, unity and peaceful co-existence amongst all in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ. Only in this way shall we achieve our collective aspirations for peace, stability and socio-economic development.
Let me also take opportunity of this occasion to remind all Christian faithful, and indeed, the entire people of the State, to use this yuletide season to continue to pray fervently for the security, peace and prosperity of Nasarawa State and Nigeria.
I need to assure you all that Government has put in place adequate security measures to ensure hitch free celebrations. In this connection, I call on all and sundry in the State to be law abiding during the festivities.
Those who may travel during this season are advised to be vigilant and to take necessary precautions, as well as be diligent to obey traffic regulations, as the roads will be very busy with increased vehicular traffic. Always remember that only the living can celebrate.
I wish you all a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
