Today, the 1st day of Shawwal 1430AH, the entire Muslim Ummah are celebrating the 2009 Eid-el-Fitr festival after successful completion of the Ramadan fast.

The past one month has been a period of sober reflection as all Muslims committed themselves to Allah’s injunction to fast, pray, show love and carry out acts of charity.

I wish to use this auspicious occasion therefore to congratulate the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Chapter of the Jamaatu'u Nasril Islam and other Muslim leaders, especially the Ulamah in Nasarawa State for the strength and grace given to us by Almighty Allah to successfully go through the holy month of Ramadan in good health.

I also commend all Islamic spiritual and voluntary organisations in the State, such as the Aid Group of the Jamaatu'u Nasril Islam and the Federation of Muslim Women Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), for the humanitarian support they rendered to the less privileged members of our society during the fasting period.

I need to remind the entire Muslim Ummah that the month of Ramadan was a sacred period of total obedience, devotion and worship of Allah. Indeed it was a period in which all Muslims were engaged in seeking forgiveness and blessings from Allah, as well as rekindling their spiritual service to Him.

My dear people of Nasarawa State, the Eid-el-fitr is an opportunity for me to once again call on all and sundry in the State to continue to show understanding and accommodation for each other in order to sustain our corporate security, social harmony, peaceful coexistence and prosperity. I urge all the citizens of the State to use this occasion to renew love for each other and live a life of sharing and caring. Let us therefore all celebrate the Eid-el-Fitr in a peaceful, secure and harmonious manner.

Let me also use this opportunity to felicitate with His Excellency, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, GCFR, President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on this occasion of the Eid-el-fitr.

On behalf of my family and the Government of Nasarawa State, I wish the people of Nasarawa State a happy, peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

Please celebrate wisely and drive carefully.
