Governing Councils for four State tertiary institutions have been inaugurated in Lafia by Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma.
The institutions are the College of Education, Akwanga; College of Agriculture, Lafia; Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia and the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Lafia.

Addressing the Governing Councils during a ceremony in Lafia, today, Governor Akwe Doma charged them to provide leadership and direction that would promote communal harmony and character moulding in the institutions. In this connection, the Governor mandated the Councils to ensure that every effort is made to step-up the fight against cultism, examination malpractices and moral laxity in all its ramifications within the institutions.
The Governing Councils which are the policy making organs of the institutions, were set up to help fully reposition the education sector in line with the Administrations’ 13-Point Agenda. According to the Governor, it is my hope, and indeed my expectation, that the Governing Councils will acquaint themselves and be guided by the approved recommendations of the high-powered Education Reform Committee as they affect their respective institutions.
The Governor also used the occasion to underscore the fact that Government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of education. The Governing Councils were therefore urged to apply their goodwill and sphere of influence to explore other sources of funds and facilities for the institutions, stating that only in this way can sustainable growth and excellence in educational institutions be achieved.
Responding on behalf of the Councils, the Emir of Lafia and Chairman of the College of Agriculture, Lafia Council, assured Government of their readiness to provide quality leadership to the institutions while urging the college communities to support them in the effort to reposition the institutions.
