The Nasarawa State Government has been called upon to come to the aid of victims of the Assakio political violence which took place sometimes last year during the electioneering campaign.
The Wakilin Eggon of Assakio, Alhaji Umaru Tsaku made the call when the victims paid a courtesy visit on Hon. Adamu Muazu Adogi, member representing Lafia North constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly in his office in Lafia.
He said the call has become imperative because the victims of the Assakio political violence were still finding life difficult as a result of the loses they incurred in the violence.
The Wakilin Eggon of Assakio said they visited the member to thank him for donating 20 bundles of roofing sheets and nails to the victims as well as to request him to liaise with the state government to get more assistance for them.
Alhaji Tsaku told Hon. Adogi that the twenty bundles of roofing sheets and nails he donated to the victims have since been distributed to those who were most hit.
He said presently most of the victims take shelter in primary schools when ever it rains.
According to him, the preceding administration of governor Abdullahi Adamu did not do anything to alleviate their suffering.
He recalled that houses were damaged during the political upheaval, pointing out that many people remained homeless and hopeless.
Responding, Hon. Adogi thanked the Eggon community for the visit and the expression of appreciation.
He said he was happy that most of the people of Assakio who were displaced during the 2007 political violence have returned to their various homes and were looking forward for assistance to settle down.
The lawmaker said , government was fully aware of what happened, assuring that government would surely come to the aid of the victims.
Hon. Adogi also said he would plead with spirited individuals to assist the Assakio community.
He then charged the people to take heart and to consider what happened to them as an act of God. The legislator further commended them for their patience and enjoined them to remain peaceful at all times.
