The cashier who recently returned excess payment of N2 million to the Zenith Bank at Gombe, has been honoured by the Gombe State Ministry of Local Government for his honesty.

The commissioner, Alhaji Dahiru Bubabiri said his ministry deemed it necessary to honour Musa Idi of Yamaulty Deba Local Government Council for his honesty. According to Bubabiri, "if he meant not to be honest he could have denied any knowledge of the money since complaint of any form of transaction in the bank could only be entertained on the counter. But once the customer leaves, neither the cashier nor the customer had the moral justification to complain over any difference noticed thereafter".

It would be recalled that Malam Musa Idi, a cashier with the Yamaulty Deba Local Government Council of Gombe state, returned an excess payment of N2 million to Zenith Bank, Gombe branch, after withdrawing about N40 million.

The general manager of Zenith Bank said if not for the cashier’s honesty, the jobs of the entire staff of the branch would have been in serious jeopardy. The general-manager said in banking operations, no amount of explanation would be enough to save the staff from being accused of masterminding a fraud in the branch.
