Rector appeals to students to shun cultism

Students of Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia have been challenged to shun cultism and other social vices.
The Rector of the polytechnic, Mr. Michael M. Ibrahim gave this challenge at the 8th matriculation ceremony held at the campus recently.
Mr. Ibrahim called on the students to observe the institution’s dressing code, in the institution and warned that management would continue to be vigilant and utilize all security measures to deal with any move to introduce dangerous activities in the institution.
Said he, "You must therefore not fritter the opportunity away by engaging in unwholesome activities."
He advised the students to cultivate and display exemplary character in addition to the academic goal they want to attain.
He appealed to students to join other well meaning Nigerians to fight moral decadence and examination malpractice.
The rector also commended Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma for showing special interest in the progress of the polytechnic by approving the release of funds to facilitate the accreditation of programmes being run by the institution.
Mr. Ibrahim said more courses would be accredited in no distant time as government continues to give the required support.
He said a total of 1005 students matriculated, stressing that 871 were for National Diploma programmes, while 134 were for Certificate programmes.
The Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Yusuf Loko called on the students to be of good behaviour.
Alhaji Loko who was represented by the Higher Education Officer, Hajiya Hassana Agbo said government wished the students good and happy time while undergoing their programmes.
He advised students to remember that they are leaders of tomorrow.
