Chairman of Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Mustapha Yahaya Idris, has commended President Umaru Musa Yar’adua, over the ongoing electoral reform, saying it would go a long way in sanitizing the electoral process in the country.

Alhaji Idris said this at the stakeholders’ forum on the delineation of wards and polling units by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently in Doma.

The chairman said INEC has provided a level play ground for all political parties to strive to greater heights.

He, however, called on INEC to do more now that it planned to delineate wards and polling units so as to rectify all loopholes identified in order to make future political activities free and fair.

He challenged politicians to be committed and live above board to shape a better political culture for the younger generations.

He appealed to Doma people to take the forum with all seriousness because the exercise would give them the opportunity to increase their representation in both federal, state and local government constituencies.

Earlier, the Nasarawa State INEC resident electoral commissioner, Mr. Godfrey Miri, said they were on fact-finding mission aimed at working out ways for hitch-free elections come 2011.

Mr. Miri appealed to the people to go out enmass and register in the ongoing voters registration exercise as the planned delineation exercise would be based on the population figure of the area.

One position paper was presented by Mr. Mathew Akwe for the demand of the people of Doma on additional wards and polling units creation.

In a related development, the Osuko of Obi, Alhaji Ogiri Dangiwa Orume, has appealed to the INEC commissioner to create more wards in Obi town.

The traditional ruler said "Obi town is the only local government headquarters in Nigeria that has only one ward".

Alhaji Orume commended the efforts of INEC, charging them to do more for Nigerians.

The chairman, Obi Local Government Council, Alhaji Abdullahi Shuaibu Akoshi, said the local government needed more wards and polling units across the local government.

The INEC commissioner, Mr. Godfrey Miri, said they were in Obi to fraternize with the people to fashion ways of creating more wards and polling units.

Mr. Miri said INEC would follow due process in the exercise.

He called on the people to close ranks and cooperate with INEC to enable it succeed in its work.

Meanwhile, Senator Suleiman Adokwe, who hails from the area, pledged the sum of N5,000,000 to INEC to provide registration machine to register his people.
