Nasarawa State Government says it has drafted a medical response team to areas where outbreak of Lassa fever has been discovered to contain further spread of the disease. Outbreak of the disease was reportedly confirmed in Masaka and Akwanga areas of the State.

The fever was reported to have claimed three lives in the affected areas including Lugbe in Federal Capital Territory.

The State Commissioner of Health, Alhaji Abubakar Sarki Dahiru, said the State Government responded immediately the news of the outbreak got to it by drafting medical personnel to the affected areas to prevent the spread of the diseases to other parts of the State.

Dahiru also said blood samples of those said to be affected have been taken and undergoing laboratory analysis in Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for confirmation.  He said the State Government through his office has also visited the families of those affected.

The State Government, he also said, has ordered for the provision of drugs for onward distribution to health centres across the State as preventive measures.

He called on the people of the State not to panic as Government is doing every thing possible to ensure their safety.
