2009 Appropriation Bill Signed into Law

Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma has signed the 2009 Appropriation Bill into law at a ceremony held in Government House Lafia.
The total size of the budget, after slight adjustments by the House of Assembly, totalled Fifty-eight Billion, Four Hundred and Seventy-eight Million, Two Hundred and Four Thousand, Five Hundred and Sixteen Naira (N58,478,204,516.00).
Assenting to the Budget after it was presented to him by the Hon. Speaker of the House of Assembly, Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma stated that the approved budget by the Honourable House is a reflection of the mutual commitment and collective resolve of the Executive and the House to this Administration’s philosophy of an all-embracing and integrated approach to the development of the State.
Governor Doma used the occasion to reassure the people of the State and development partners that with the passage of the 2009 Appropriation Bill the Administration was now set and determined to implement the projects and programmes contained in the budget.
Making reference to the current global economic realities, Governor Aliyu Doma appealed to the people of the State to prepare for a tough and rough journey, saying that the situation calls for sober reflection and a renewed commitment to the imperatives of sacrifice, prudence, due process, transparency and accountability as we go about implementing the budget.
Earlier on, the Speaker of the House, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed stated that the House recognised the challenges that lay ahead of the Administration in the implementation of the Budget, but was ready to cooperate with the Executive in ensure that the budget was fully funded.
The Special Adviser on Legislative Affairs, Yusuf Omaki, had earlier informed the audience that the Governor submitted in bill to the House at the end of last year and that it took the House less than three weeks, after suspending its recess, to pass the budget.
