Speech by His Excellency, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma (OON) Madauchin Doma, Executive Governor of Nasarawa State on the Occasion of the Presentation of Star Prize of N50million to Mr. James Umbugadu, Winner of the Diamond Bank Savings Extra Promo, Lafia, Monday, 26 January 2009
Protocol:
I am delighted to join you today on this historic occasion of the presentation ceremony of Diamond Bank Savings Extra Promotion prize to the first winner of the star prize - Mr. James Umaru Umbugadu. Let me on behalf of the Government and people of Nasarawa State congratulate the prize winner.
It is gratifying to note that the emergence of Mr. Umbugadu is sequel to his responding to the current drive for savings culture amongst Nigerians as being promoted by Diamond Bank Plc.
Ladies and gentlemen, you would recall that one of the main objectives of this Administration as outlined in the 13-point agenda is the economic empowerment of our people. This objective, among others, aims at encouraging our people to establish commercial and mutually beneficial relationship with the banking sector which is critical to the promotion of business and self reliance. In the same vein, we have continued to encourage commercial entities doing business in the state to share in this vision. It is in this context that I view the emergence of Mr.Umbugadu in this promo as a happy and encouraging development for the Government and people of Nasarawa State.
Taking a cue from this ceremony, I wish to once more call on the people of Nasarawa State to embrace the banking culture in the conduct of business and commercial activities.
Ladies and gentlemen, let me reiterate this Administration’s determination to reduce poverty which no doubt has remained the bane of our development. Accordingly, the development of a virile private and business community which hitherto was non-existent in the state is an urgent necessity.
In this direction, you would recall that in my appeals and meetings with the banking sector, I had always challenged banks to come out with possible suggestions and products on how best the Government and people of Nasarawa State can realise the mission of achieving poverty reduction, wealth creation and employment generation, as well as infrastructural development.
At this juncture, I wish to commend Diamond Bank Plc for initiating this promo which, I believe, will encourage savings culture and outreach to the unbanked populace in the State. I charge you to sustain and diversify this laudable scheme.
To our Star Prize winner, Mr. Umbagadu, I urge you to view your emergence as the winner in this promo as an act of God which is meant to provide a stepping stone to your economic wellbeing. You should therefore invest the proceeds wisely in ventures that will boost your economic status, that of the State and Nigeria in general. I believe that very soon, with the expert advice you receive from the bank, you will become an employer of labour.
It is my pleasure to once again congratulate you on this historic achievement. May Almighty Allah give you the wisdom to judiciously invest this prize.
On this note, it is now my pleasure to present to our Star Winner of the Diamond Savings Extra Promo, Mr. James Umbugadu, the cheque of N50million.
Thank you and God bless.
