Four members of Otumu ruling house of Odu village in Udege Development Area of Nasarawa State have instituted a legal action at the Lafia High Court against the commissioner of justice and his local government and community development counterpart over the selection and installation of Mr. Odumu Egya, as the village head of Odu. Six other members of Odu village were joined in the suit.
In the suit challenging the selection and installation of the first dependant, Odumu Egya, the plaintiffs averred that the Otumu ruling house was denied the opportunity to participate in the selection exercise, a factor, which they contended, contravened the Nasarawa Emirates Council (Modification of Native Law and Custom relating to the selection of the village head of Odu) Order 1991.
In the summons with suit No. NSD/LF30/08, the plaintiffs sought for a perpetual injunction restraining the first defendant from parading himself as the village head of Odu.
Nigerian Newsday gathered that the writ of summons had already been served on the defendants. However, no date has been fixed for the hearing into the matter.
