The Nasarawa State Executive Council met on Thursday, December 4, 2008. Council deliberated on issues of fundamental importance to the people of Nasarawa State with regards to good governance, economic empowerment and service delivery.

2       Council reiterated its commitment to Government policy of economic empowerment of the people of the State. In this connection, council ratified the award of contracts for the renovation, expansion and upgrading of existing Relevant Technology Centres at Lafia, Doma, Wamba and Nasarawa. These centres are to serve as Skills Acquisition Training Institutes in furtherance to the economic empowerment programme recently launched by His Excellency, the Executive Governor.

3.      You would also recall that the objectives of the economic empowerment programme as enunciated by His Excellency are employment generation, wealth creation, poverty reduction and value reorientation, targeted mainly at the unemployed, unskilled and semi-skilled youth and women of Nasarawa State.

4.      Concerned about the need to create conducive working environment for workers in the State through the provision of comfortable and well equipped offices, Council approved the completion of all abandoned office buildings and structures for Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

5.      Government’s financial commitment on the Relevant Technology Institutes, as well as the completion of the office buildings is at the total cost of Eight Hundred and Sixty-eight Million, Three Hundred and Fifty-two Thousand, Six Hundred and Sixty-four Naira, Ninety-five Kobo.

6.      Contracts for the various aspects of the works have been awarded to 45 carefully selected indigenous contractors. This is pursuant to this Administration’s policy of Economic Empowerment of the people of the State.

7.      Conscious of the complimentary roles of the three arms of government in a democracy, Council also approved the award of contract for the reconstruction, furnishing and equipping of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly complex, at the sum of 1,764,695,742.97 (One Billion, Seven Hundred and Sixty-four Million, Six Hundred and Ninety-five Thousand, Seven Hundred and Forty-two Naira, Ninety-Seven Kobo) with a completion period of six months. It is envisaged that when completed, the complex will be among the best in the country, with state-of-the-art facilities.

8.      Council also received reports of various indigenes of the State, groups and organisations that have been recognised for excellence in different aspects of human endeavours. Council resolved to set aside a day to honour these achievers as part of the government policy of recognition and promotion of excellence.
