Nasarawa state government has said that unless the tenure of Local Government officials are reversed by the Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA), it would remain two years.
The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mustapha Aliyu, disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen at the monthly press briefing of the ministry in Lafia, weekend.
It would be recalled that Local Government Council Chairmen and councilors were recently sworn in by the state governor, Aliyu Akwe Doma.
The commissioner noted that while no new law had been enacted by the state assembly, it is assumed that the council officials would serve for two years after which elections would be held in the state.
Aliyu said that the council polls that were recently held in the state "were free and fair", arguing that for the fact that the exercise was relatively peaceful, the elections should be accepted as an act of God.
