Gov Doma tasks the rich to invest in education
Nasarawa state government has urged public-spirited individuals, donor agencies and private organizations to contribute in enhancing the nation’s education sector.
The state governor, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma made the call last week, in Anyigba Local Government Area of Kogi, at the 4th convocation and Endowment fund launching of Kogi State University.
Governor Doma said investment in education was the best form of investment any government or organization could make, and enjoined relevant stakeholders to cooperate with government in funding the education sector.
He stressed the need for collaborative effort in the education sector as according to him "the nature of education and the importance attached to it is such that we need to collectives efforts in moving it forward".
Governor Doma who commended the staff and management of Kogi state university for successfully coming of age, challenged the management to justify the confidence reposed in it by providing good leadership.
He assured the university of Nasarawa State’s readiness to assist it in whatever was possible and enjoined the university community to always propagate knowledge.
The Governor commissioned a lecture theatre in the faculty of social sciences and commended the Kogi State government for providing structures in the institution.
"The University has graduated from a glorified secondary school that it was some times back to a real 21st century University due to the dogged men of my brother, the governor Idris" he stated.
Governor Doma however, donated ten million naira (N10,000,000) to the university’s endowment fund. The 4th convocation ceremony which held at the university premises, witnessed the presentation of certificates to graduands of the institution.
Meanwhile, Governor Doma has described death as an inevitable tragedy of human nature. He stated this when he paid condolence visit to the Sanki Lokoja, Alhaji Mohammed Kabir Makarfi III, over the death of the Wazirin Lokoja, Alhaji Idris Baba.
He described the Late Waziri as some one who lived a fulfilled life and prayed God to grant him eternal rest.
Governor Doma who asked the Sarki Lokoja to take solace in the fact that the late title holder was resting in the bossom of the creator, prayed God to give both the Sarki and Waziri’s family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
