Chairmanship candidate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Toto Local Government Council of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Isyaku Okpanaki Ibrahim has said, if elected into office, his administration would organize quarterly stakeholders meeting to be tagged "Unity Summit" as a strategy for restoring lasting peace to the area.
Alhaji Ibrahim stated this in an interview with Nigerian Newsday in Lafia last week.
He stressed that his first plan of action would be to tackle the problem of disunity in Toto Local Government Area through this forum, by getting all tribes to participate so that the area would reclaim its lost glory.
He said, the climax of the summit would be to celebrate peace every year in Toto Local Government.
Alhaji Ibrahim who identified "injustice" as the major cause of the past crisis in Toto said his administration’s mission would be "equity and justice". And that every tribe in the local government would be treated fairly.
According to Alhaji Ibrahim, another topmost priority of his administration would be to embark on physical development projects that would cut across the entire local government.
He said after the protracted Toto crises, what the area needed was physical development that would improve the living standard of the people.
He said his administration would give Toto town, the headquarters of the council area a befitting outlook worthy of a local government headquarters, while rural roads like Chiji, Sardauna, Katakpa among others would be constructed.
Alhaji Ibrahim stated that his administration would also take critical look at the health, agriculture, education sectors, as well as youths and women empowerment with a view to restructuring these sectors for better service to the people.
He said, the process of real peace and integration in Toto Local Government has as an Egburra man he has chosen his vice chairman from the Bassa tribe.
The aspirant condemned in strong term political thuggery, saying such act has no place in politics," the moment you see a person with thugs, know that he is not a popular candidate" and called on politicians to dwell on real issues that would convince the electorate to vote for them.
Alhaji Ibrahim appealed to eligible voters to come out on November 1st, 2008 and vote wisely.
