Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, n Nasarawa state Dr. Bawa Ahmed Abimiku has disclosed plans by the centre to construct an ultra-moden casualty unit in the centre so as to meet up with the increasing influx of patients to the centre.

Dr. Abimiku who made the disclosure while speaking with pressmen in his office recently, stressed that the present casualty ward was grossly inadequate as it accommodates only few patients.

On the functions of the centre, the medical director re-stated that the centre was providing tertiary medical services to the public through experts and consultants in various aspects of human medicine. He also stated that the centre handles referral cases from other hospitals.

On staff performance, Dr. Abimku described it as highly encouraging especially with the advent of SERYICOM whereby patients now receive the desired attention and services. He appealed to government at all levels to intensity efforts towards preventive rather than curative care in line with good medical practice. While commending the federal governments health reform programme, Dr. Abimiku called for complementing support from individuals, philanthropists and Non-Governmental Organizations so as to help develop the centre.

In another development, following the directive by the federal government that all government establishments must set up committee on anti-corruption and transparency, the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi has inaugurated its committee.

The five-member committee has Dr. Tunde Owoyele (consultant ophthalmologist) as its chairman with Mrs. Habiba Hassan, Mrs comfort Madaki and Rabiu U. Tanko as members while Mr Anthony Ayaka is to serve as its secretary.
