New helmsmen for two ministries

Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma of Nasarawa State has sent the names of two nominees to the state House of Assembly for confirmation as commissioners.
The two nominees were Mr. Philip Adgidzi and Mr Sylvester Adama Alkali Harry. It would be recalled that the governor recently increased the number of ministries in the state from thirteen to fifteen.
The two additional ministries are those of science and technology, carved out of the ministry of education, and the ministry of housing and urban development created out of the old ministry of transport and housing.
It is expected that the two nominees would be assigned to the new ministries after their confirmation by the House of Assembly.
Meanwhile, the state House of Assembly has requested the two nominees sent to it for confirmation as commissioners to appear before the House for clearance.
However, there are indications that the governor will reshuffle his cabinet, with a view to reinvigorate the administration in the state.
In a related development, Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma has confirmed the appointment of Alhaji Mohammed Ali Dogara to serve as a commissioner in the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC).
The appointment of Alhaji Dogara from Wamba Local Government followed the demise of Alhaji Abbas Mohammed, former NASIEC commissioner who hailed from that local government.
In another development, the ad-hoc committee on electricity supply in Nasarawa State set up by the NSHA Speaker, Alhaji Musa Ahmed Mohammed has submitted its report to the House.
In its report, the committee recommended that the contractor handling the Lafia street light project should suspend work and appear before the House to explain why the actual specification of the contract was not followed.
The report also recommended that the committee on works and urban development should submit the contractual agreement for the project to the House of Assembly to enable it ascertain whether the project was being implemented as agreed.
It also urged the state government to lobby the ministry of power and energy for additional substation in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
In addition, it recommended that the 500 KVA transformers meant for Lafia and Doma be installed without delay.
The committee also suggested that electricity power monitoring team should be constituted in the state to liaise with the national committee so as to boost electricity supply to the state.
The Joint committee on the supply of electricity in Nasarawa State, while at the ministry of works was informed that government has ordered for the supply of twenty 500kva transformers while seventeen of the transformers have been supplied, tested and found to be functional.
After the report was presented to the speaker by the chairman of the committee, Hon. Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, the report was deliberated upon by the lawmakers and adopted by the House.
The speaker, Alhaji Musa Ahmed Mohammed who presided over the House proceedings thanked the members for their contributions to the report.
