Officials of the Directorate of Road Traffic  Service last week said they have intensified efforts to curb fake plate numbers and vehicle documents in the Federal Capital Territory.

DRTS Director, Major Adamu S. Argungu lamented that the fake plate numbers are issued by some dubious persons from other agencies that are not empowered by law to deal with vehicle registration.

The director warned that anyone caught racketeering such fake plates and vehicle particulars would be handed over to the law enforcement agents for scrutiny and necessary prosecution.

"The directorate would not relent until the excesses of fake vehicle registration numbers and document is tackled.

He disclosed that a committee has been constituted by him to investigate fully and unravel the sources of such fake plate numbers and vehicle particulars, adding that the DRTS is collaborating with other relevant government agencies on the issue.

Argungu advised motorists to avoid patronising dubious persons while procuring FCT plate numbers and documents.

He said motorists should insist in transacting such business in the premises of the DRTS, Mabushi and should only deal with desk officers designated to handle such assignments.

The director maintained that motorists should always carry along with them the original copies of their vehicle documents in order to help check the excesses of fake vehicle documents.
