The Nasarawa State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Akwe Doma has called on northern states governments to redouble their efforts in the fight against the menace of poverty and illiteracy in the region.

Governor Doma who made the call in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, said that unless something urgently was done to arrest the situation, the north would continue to remain underdeveloped.

The governor advised his colleagues in the north to work together for the development of the region, stressing the resolve of his administration to further strengthen its socio-economic and cultural bonds with the people and government of Borno State.

"Nasarawa State is committed to strengthening understanding with Borno State so as to promote synergy, policy deliverance and democratic dividends on a larger scale," he said.

He said Nasarawa and Borno states have a lot to share as far as the development of the people of the two states was concerned.

Governor Doma assured the Borno State Government of his administration’s readiness to partner with it in the area of socio-economic development saying, "we have a lot to learn from each other."

He stressed that indigenes of both states "will no doubt benefit from a mutual relationship" that would contribute to consolidating the nation’s democracy.

Responding, Governor Ali Modu Sheriff of Borno State who was represented by the secretary to the state government, Ambassador Ahmed Baba Jidda, commended Governor Doma for his commitment to the development of the two states.

"Borno and Nasarawa share so many things in common and the partnership is an idea whose time has come," he stated.

He applauded Governor Doma’s development strides, enjoining him to continue with the good works he was doing.

Governor Doma who visited Maiduguri penultimate week, attended the wedding solemnization of Alhaji Waziri Lamino’s daughter.

A director in the federal ministry of communication, Alhaji Waziri Lamino, is an astute bureaucrat and a long time friend of Governor Doma.
